title: Mental and Physical Health Among People in Prisons
description: This blog post delves into a study from Lancet Public Health that synthesizes meta-analyses on the prevalence of mental and physical health conditions among prison populations worldwide. It highlights the significant burden of treatable mental disorders, substance use disorders, and infectious diseases in prisons. The review emphasizes the need for integrating prison health within national public health systems and the potential public health benefits of addressing these health needs during incarceration. Additionally, it identifies key gaps in the existing meta-analytic evidence, suggesting areas for future research.
