Lina Alathari, PhD presents a live virtual professional training program on Threat Assessment: A Behavior-Based Approach to Preventing Mass Attacks in Public Spaces in partnership with the American Board of Police and Public Safety Psychology (ABPPSP).

Ensuring the safety of our communities is a responsibility that belongs to everyone. For over 20 years, the U.S. Secret Service National Threat Assessment Center (NTAC) has continued to lead the field of behavioral threat assessment by conducting research, training, and consultation on the prevention of all forms of targeted violence. This presentation will highlight NTAC’s latest research report, Mass Attacks in Public Spaces: 2016-2020, which analyzed 173 attacks that resulted in harm to three or more individuals in the United States.

These attacks impacted a variety of locations, including businesses/workplaces, schools, houses of worship, military bases, community service providers, residential complexes, public transportation sites, and open spaces.

The report provides an unprecedented foundational understanding of the behaviors, circumstances, and personal factors that lead to mass violence. The presentation will also focus on how communities can use a multidisciplinary threat assessment approach to identify, assess, and intervene with individuals exhibiting concerning or threatening behaviors and mitigate their risk of causing harm.
