Monthly Message from President O’Connor - March 2024

In support of our university’s values of compassion and inclusivity, PAU is a member of the Presidents’ Alliance on Higher Education and Immigration, an association of universities that brings college and university presidents and chancellors together on immigration issues that affect higher education. As President, I recently had the opportunity to join 167 other university presidents and sign onto an amicus brief in support of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.  

The amicus brief emphasized the positive impact DACA recipients have made in various sectors, including education, healthcare, and entrepreneurship. It underscores the importance of protecting their ability to pursue their educational and career aspirations. 

At PAU, we recognize the humanity in each individual and strive to create just and inclusive communities. With the support of our incredible Student Success team, and with gratitude to Lisa Harris, our International & Veterans Student Success Specialist, we work diligently to support all of our students’ success. 

I encourage you to read the amicus brief and learn more about the important work being done to support DACA recipients. Upholding DACA is not just a legal or political issue; it's a matter of compassion and empathy for our fellow human beings. Together, we can create a more compassionate and inclusive society where everyone has the opportunity to thrive,  especially as we honor the contributions and resilience of women throughout history during Women's History Month.
