PAU’s Dr. Jorge Wong Appointed to APA Council of Representatives
Jorge Wong, Ph.D., PAU alumnus, Trustee and faculty member was recently named to the American Psychological Association Council of Representatives.
The Council of Representatives (COR) is the legislative body of the American Psychological Association (APA) and is composed of representatives of divisions, states, provinces, and territories, and the members of the Board of Directors. Dr. Wong will represent nearly 17,000 licensed psychologists from the state of California.
“I hope to represent CPA [California Psychological Association] well at COR as it is the legislative body that reviews and approves the policies impacting the organization, its members and its practice. Nowadays states only have one representative compared to the two California used to have, so my responsibility will be to liaise between our state psychological association and our national organization effectively and efficiently,” Wong said.
Dr. Wong has a prodigious record of service to his professional communities. He was involved with the California Psychological Association from 2006 on, completing a Presidential term in 2017. He was also president of the San Francisco Psychological Association and the Santa Clara County Psychological Association.
Wong has also been involved with other APA divisions, governance, and editorial boards and was awarded the 2020 Outstanding Psychologist Award from Division 31 (State, Provincial and Territorial Psychological Association Affairs).
He received his M.S. in Clinical Psychology and his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from PAU. He teaches in the Diversity and Community Mental Health emphasis of the Ph.D. program and serves on the PAU Board of Trustees.
