Monthly Message from President O’Connor - May 2024
One important way that colleges and universities demonstrate their commitment to the highest standards of academic excellence and institutional quality is through participating in institutional accreditation. PAU has been accredited by the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC) since 1986. WSCUC’s mission is that “With equity at its core -- success for all students -- WSCUC pursues excellence through rigorous accreditation standards applied flexibly, empowering all its member institutions to achieve their missions.”
I am delighted to share with you some exciting news—I have been elected as a commissioner for WSCUC. The Commission establishes the formal Standards for institutional quality and processes for review, takes action on the accreditation status of institutions, and sets WSCUC’s strategic goals. It is an honor and privilege to serve in this capacity, and I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the advancement of quality in higher education.
This appointment is significant for PAU because it reflects our dedication to excellence. By serving on the WSCUC commission, I will be able to participate in and advance the broader conversation about educational standards, equity, and best practices.
I am excited about the opportunities that lie ahead and look forward to representing PAU as a WSCUC Commissioner. Together, we will continue to strive for excellence in all that we do, and I am confident that our collective efforts will have a positive impact on the future of education in our region and beyond.
Thank you for your continued support and encouragement. I am grateful to be part of such a dedicated community, and I am excited to embark on this new chapter with all of you by my side.
