Putting Inclusive Excellence into Action

Advancing Inclusive Excellence at Palo Alto University is not the responsibility of a single department but of our entire community. Our collective efforts must lay a strong foundation for all that we do, including teaching, research, development, leadership, mentorship, innovation, and service. These actions are grounded in the dimensions of our Inclusive Excellence framework, and guided by our academic and student leaders. All initiatives are designed to support the success of students, staff, and faculty.

Detailed below is information outlining the specific measures the Division of Academic and Student Affairs (DASA) has taken and is taking to foster inclusivity and positive change within our community. This webpage underscores the collective efforts of DASA and the profound impact of its departments.

  • Dedicated Support for All Collaborating with all departments to ensure continuous support and training for the thriving success of all.
  • TimelyCare Reminders Sent timely reminders through TimelyCare, Student Success Instagram, and PAU email messages prioritizing mental health and overall well-being.
  • Student Support Resources Student Success continues to share resources, creating a repository of support services for the entire PAU community. guaranteeing financial support for support and training.
  • Investment in Initiatives Provost Office allocated a budget to fund transformative initiatives, guaranteeing financial support for support and training.

  • Inclusive Community Spaces Organized Communal Affinity Spaces and Collective Communal Spaces, fostering a sense of belonging and inclusivity for all.
  • Cultural Dialogues with Students, Faculty and Staff Administration, Faculty and Staff engaged in meaningful dialogues with students, faculty and staff representing impacted communities.
  • DEIB Webinars for Faculty Introduced DEIB webinars, creating a collaborative hub on the CEE website for all faculty.
  • Facilitating Faculty Discussions Provided resources and training for faculty to facilitate respectful and constructive discussions on sensitive topics.

  • Continued Training Ongoing discussions for additional intergroup dialogue training for students and employees

  • Libguides for Crisis Response The library developed libguides on "Refugee Crises" and "Large-Scale Events Trauma," providing valuable resources for research, teaching, and counseling related to crises.
  • Faculty Resource Hub Faculty Success shared relevant CEE website content, NCFDD trainings/materials and Virtual Teaching Library articles/materials, ensuring faculty had access to a wealth of knowledge.
  • Ongoing Learning The Faculty Senate is finalizing preferences for training on non violent communication, and seeking quotes for a consultant to host small groups.

  • External Resources Outreach Actively reaching out to external agencies, curating a list of potential resources for future trainings, workshops, or speakers.

  • Local Agency Partnership Meeting with a local agency to explore training opportunities, fostering future community conversations and collaborations.
  • Strategic Consultant Compilation Compiled a list of possible external consultants who are experts In various aspects of the Issues and Inclusive Excellence training.
  • Additional Campus Events Grounded in Inclusive Excellence The inaugural Inclusive Excellence Symposium was held on April 24th. There are ongoing plans for future events led by Student Success and Faculty Success.

  • Informed Decision-Making Gathering information from constituents to determine the most useful types of training, support, and healing spaces for faculty and students.
  • Evaluation and Assessment Assessment and Institutional Effectiveness Department are working with various departments to collect data to assess the impact of activities, trainings, and supports.
  • Counseling Program Town Hall/Listening Session MA Program will hold a second Town Hall/Listening Session for students before the end of the 23-24 academic year

  • Student Success Outreach Connect with students who may be impacted by the conflict/issue and provide resources and assess needs

  • Prospective Student Support Admissions team is preparing to provide additional application support to applicants from the impacted region.
  • Guiding Student Inquiries The Registrar's staff is responding to student inquiries, redirecting them to the appropriate offices, academic departments, or available resources as needed.
