Report writing is of utmost importance for forensic psychologists conducting criminal court assessments. Long before an individual takes the stand as an expert witness, the written report gives judges, attorneys, and opposing experts a roadmap for evaluating the psychologist’s reasoning, methods, objectivity, and credibility. A strong forensic report does more than summarize clinical findings. It answers the referral question, links data to psycholegal opinions, identifies limitations, manages bias, and prepares the evaluator to testify clearly under adversarial scrutiny. Effective report writing is not just documentation. It is the foundation for defensible expert testimony.
