Mission Statement

The mission of the Center for Educational Excellence at Palo Alto University is to advance the principles of inclusive and innovative academic excellence in education by supporting educators and future educators in the PAU community. We are committed to:

  • Providing inclusive and transformative educational development, resources, and mentoring to educators and future educators, helping them develop culturally competent, inclusive teaching practices to cultivate visionary, responsive, and culturally affirming educators
  • Foster the creation of inclusive learning environments that celebrate diversity, respect all perspectives, and cultivate a sense of belonging among students, faculty, and staff.
  • Share innovative teaching and learning methods, leveraging cutting-edge technologies and evidence-based practices to enhance educational experiences and outcomes.
  • Providing ongoing educational development opportunities, workshops, and resources to ensure that new faculty members have the support they need to excel in their roles, pursue their career aspirations, and contribute to the growth of Palo Alto University.

Through these efforts, we uphold Palo Alto University's core values of excellence, collaboration, compassion, diversity, and innovation, ensuring that PAU’s educators and future educators are catalysts for positive change in the lives of students and the broader community.

    • Pedagogy in a minute (PIM) is a newsletter describing small teaching tips/strategies for the implementation of effective pedagogy.
    • Pedagogy in a clip (PIC) is a series of short training videos covering pedagogical strategies to incorporate into the classroom.

Meet Our Team

Maximillian Macias

Pedagogical Development Coordinator

Max graduated from UC Santa Barbara with BAs in psychology and sociology. He also earned his teaching credential in biological science and a M.S.Ed. with an emphasis in School Policy. He is passionate about trauma-informed teaching, pedagogies of care, and culturally relevant teaching. Max’s pedagogical expertise makes him a rich resource for students and faculty alike.
