Help with eBooks
To find all eBooks available from the library, search the library catalog. This is your best bet if you're looking for eBooks in general (e.g., on a selected topic or by a given author), or if you're looking for a specific eBook (e.g., with a known title or ISBN). To get started, just enter your search terms in the search box that's provided.
Alternatively, you can search the library catalog using the second search box on the library website.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The library is typically unable to provide online access to textbooks. If you cannot locate a textbook using the library catalog, you'll need to order it from the online bookstore.
You can also access the library's eBooks through the databases. A database search is the appropriate starting point if you're conducting scholarly research. Each database platform offers it's own unique set of eBooks, with the content broken down by chapter. When searching the databases, it's important to to determine if each item is a journal article, an eBook chapter, or something else. For more information about the library's database platforms, and to locate access links, take a look at the library website's Databases page.
When you open an eBook by clicking on a full-text link, look for and review the information about access and use. This information will vary from eBook to eBook, and it will be displayed differently across platforms.
When reviewing eBook access and use information, ask yourself these important questions:
- Is there a limit on the number of users who can access the eBook at the same time?
- Are downloads allowed, or is the material read-only?
- Are downloads available for the entire eBook? For individual chapters?
- Is third-party software (e.g., Adobe Digital Editions) required for access?
- Is there a time limit on downloads?
- Is there a page limit on downloads?
- Are there any copy/paste, printing, or reproduction restrictions?
- Are there any issues with the access links?
