Every forensic report needs to be written with defensibility in mind. Competency opinions, violence risk assessments, and custody recommendations are tested under cross-examination, compared with other evaluators’ opinions, and relied upon by courts in decisions that shape the legal fate of the people being evaluated. A program that trains staff to produce consistently defensible results keeps pace with a fast-moving literature, fits the evaluations staff conduct, builds in practice and expert feedback, and measures success through the reports and opinions staff produce. Online staff psychology training workshops are well suited to that standard, and research on forensic assessment instruments shows that structured online formats improve rating accuracy and inter-evaluator agreement.
