Our History
The Palo Alto University (PAU) eClinic is an innovative, university-based online teaching clinic that was founded in March 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. The eClinic@PAU distinguished itself as the first university-affiliated clinic in the United States dedicated to training counseling and psychology students in digital therapeutics, artificial intelligence (AI)-based interventions, and AI-enhanced supervision.
Initially focused on serving older adults, the eClinic@PAU rapidly expanded its reach to include mental health services tailored to first-generation, economically disadvantaged students through strategic partnerships with local college success organizations. As awareness of the eClinic@PAU’s unique offerings grew and positive experiences spread through word of mouth, services broadened to encompass the general adult population throughout California. Clinicians have effectively delivered therapeutic support to individuals spanning the state's vast geography, from the southern border to the northernmost regions.
Driven by a vision to become the premier training site for digital therapeutics and AI-driven mental health interventions, the eClinic@PAU established a partnership with a pioneering AI supervision platform. This technology provides immediate post-session analytics, highlighting session themes and intervention strategies. Such insights enable clinicians and supervisors to collaboratively enhance the quality of care and refine clinical skills.
Today, students trained at the eClinic@PAU graduate equipped with cutting-edge competencies, positioning them to effectively deliver technologically-informed mental health care suited for contemporary needs.
Through continuous innovation and commitment to accessible mental health services, the eClinic@PAU remains at the forefront of training future mental health professionals.
The eClinic@PAU is fully virtual with no physical address.
