Consortium with Stanford University

Palo Alto University | Stanford Medicine Dept. of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences

History and Mission

The collaboration between Palo Alto University (PAU) and the Stanford University School of Medicine was formed in 2002, with a goal of creating a practitioner-scholar training program for graduate students in clinical psychology, grounded in evidence-based practice. Rather than the practitioner-scientist model of PhD programs, the PAU-Stanford PsyD Consortium program is intended for individuals seeking careers devoted primarily to the direct delivery of clinical psychological services. The PAU-Stanford Psy.D. Consortium training program has been accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) since 2006.

Consortium Model

PAU-Stanford PsyD Consortium students are full-time registered Palo Alto University (PAU) students who attend a 50% Stanford affiliated Psy.D. program. Students have access to certain resources and training opportunities at each of the two institutions. Approximately half of the Psy.D. courses are taught at the Stanford Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, where the majority of faculty who teach clinical courses also provide direct clinical care.
