A clinical director training staff to administer parenting capacity assessments must produce consistent, defensible performance that respects the highly consequential nature of these evaluations. A parenting capacity assessment shapes decisions about where a child lives, who cares for them, and what safety measures a family needs going forward. Thus, a clinical director selecting parenting capacity assessment training at a larger organization needs to identify programs that teach a particular skill set to individuals with a range of expertise. The skill of observing a parent and child together and drawing sound, defensible conclusions is fundamental to this work, and should be a priority in training. An online training program for staff of varying levels of experience should build competency consistently across everyone who completes it.
