This on-demand professional training program on Introduction to Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is presented by Michele Galietta, PhD.
This program provides an overview of the components of DBT and specific skills taught in this adaptation of DBT. The presentation is appropriate for clinicians and leadership, practicing in justice-oriented settings.
DBT is a cognitive behavior therapy that adds mindfulness and acceptance-based strategies to traditional CBT to help individuals identify and achieve a meaningful life. DBT has strong empirical support for reducing suicide, violence, self-harm, substance abuse, and other destructive behaviors. This model is increasingly being used in adult and youth justice settings. Settings that use DBT with fidelity can expect reduced restraints and improved staff safety and morale. DBT is a promising intervention for reducing criminality and creating prosocial lives after residential placement or incarceration. DBT skills include mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness.
