Zo Amaro Jimenez, PsyD presents a virtual live professional training program on Foundations of Gender and Gender-Inclusive Counseling in partnership with Gender Spectrum.
Misinformation and fear related to care for transgender and nonbinary youth are abundant right now. This training will help clinicians cut through the noise and focus on how they can build on best care practices to support gender-diverse youth and their families. By engaging with current research, videos, case studies, reflection, and discussion, clinicians will gain a solid understanding of how gender-affirming care is critical for transgender and nonbinary clients and relevant to all clients. Participants will learn to apply concrete strategies to support the health and well-being of their clients in a variety of settings.
Training content includes:
- Cultural, historical, and intersectional contexts for understanding gender
- Reflections on personal beliefs and experiences with gender
- Key concepts and terminology related to the dimensions of gender
- Approaches based on trauma-informed care and minority stress
- Data related to family support, minority stress, risk, and resilience for transgender and nonbinary youth
- A framework and concrete strategies for gender-inclusive counseling
- Strategies to create more gender-inclusive institutions
This program will be valuable for any clinician who works with youth or families, whether or not you are currently working with transgender or nonbinary children or teens. Participants can be at any stage in their career, from practicum student or interns to licensed clinicians. Anyone that has an interest in expanding their skillset to be affirming of and work with transgender children and their families. Participants working in a variety of settings, such as community mental health settings, school-based settings, hospital settings, and private practice, would benefit from this training.
