PAU Launches New UX Research Track in MS Psychology Program

PALO ALTO, CA Palo Alto University (PAU) has announced the launch of a new User Experience Research (UXR) track within its Master of Science in Psychology program, beginning in Fall 2026. The new specialization responds to growing demand for behavioral scientists who can apply psychological research across the technology sector and tech-integrated industries.

The UXR track builds on PAU’s foundation in human cognition, development, and research methods, preparing students to study how people interact with digital systems. Unlike many programs that prioritize design tools and interface development, the track is grounded in a “psychology-first” approach. Students complete foundational training in behavioral science before applying those principles to user research challenges.

The addition comes as the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects 15% growth in UX research roles through 2033, with annual salaries starting around $100,000. Organizations across healthcare, technology, and digital services increasingly seek professionals who can apply behavioral science to improve user experiences.

The track is led by Dr. Blanca Pineda, who has professional experience in technology and mental health research and a focus on applying behavioral science to the development of digital mental health resources and interventions. She noted that demand for UX researchers continues to grow as organizations seek deeper insight into user behavior.

“I am delighted about the launch of the UXR track within the MS of Psychology program at PAU. With this specialization, students will integrate their psychology training with technology and human-centered design to develop and evaluate digital tools to help improve the human experience,” said Blanca Pineda, Ed.D., Interim Director of the MS in Psychology program. “Technology is leveraged to build these tools, but the priority is the human experience, for we are designing and evaluating digital tools to help people, not machines.”

Students in the track will complete coursework in foundations of UX research, human-computer interaction, accessibility and inclusive design, and data visualization, with opportunities to apply these methods to emerging areas such as AI-driven systems and inclusive technology.

With this addition, PAU now offers five specialized tracks, including PhD Prep, Forensic Psychology, Technology and Mental Health, and Generalist studies.

Applications for the Fall 2026 cohort are open through July 31, 2026. More information is available at PaloAltoU.edu.
