Vision and Mission

Our Vision

A future shaped by human understanding.

Grounded in human dignity, we aspire to shape a future where people live with greater connection and purpose; where communities are healthier and more resilient; where systems are more equitable and humane; where the tools we create serve humanity rather than diminish it; and where the defining challenges of our time are met with the depth of insight only human understanding can provide.

Our Mission

Palo Alto University advances human understanding through innovative education, groundbreaking research, and impactful practice in behavioral science.

Dimensions of Human Understanding

Human understanding is the purposeful application of insight into how people think, feel, behave, relate, heal, and make meaning to improve lives, strengthen communities, and build more humane systems.

  1. Cognition: how people think, perceive, learn, and decide.
  2. Emotion: how people feel and regulate experience.
  3. Behavior: how people act individually and in families, communities, and institutions.
  4. Relationships: how people connect, belong, and influence one another.
  5. Healing: how people recover, grow, and restore wellness
  6. Meaning: How people interpret experience, construct purpose, and make sense of themselves and the world.
