Affordable and Accessible ADHD and Autism Assessments for Adults

About the Assessment Clinic

The Assessment Clinic at PAU offers affordable ADHD assessments and autism assessments for adults, provided in a clinical training setting by doctoral-level students under the supervision of licensed psychologists. If you've suspected you might be neurodivergent but found adult ADHD and autism testing elsewhere to be too expensive, too slow, or too broad, the Assessment Clinic was built with you in mind.

There's a lot of conversation right now about neurodivergence—on social media, in the news, among friends and coworkers—and it's brought many adults to the same question: could this be me? Maybe you've had a lifetime of feeling like things that come easily to other people take more effort for you. Maybe a family member's diagnosis made you look at your own patterns differently. Maybe you looked into testing already, but the wait list or the price tag felt like they excluded you. The Assessment Clinic exists to give adults a clear, credible, and reachable path to an answer, without the financial burden or never-ending waitlist.

Is the Assessment Clinic Right for You?

The Assessment Clinic is a good fit if:

  • You are 18 years of age or older—as we do not currently offer pediatric assessments.
  • You're specifically looking for an ADHD assessment, autism assessment, or both.
  • You haven't been evaluated before, or you've wanted a second opinion but found other options too costly or slow.
  • You want a thorough, evidence-based evaluation overseen by real clinicians, not online tests or AI chat streams.

Currently, the Assessment Clinic is not able to support:

  • Evaluations for dementia, traumatic brain injury (TBI), or other neuropsychological conditions outside ADHD and autism.
  • Children or adolescents—this service is adult-only for now.

ADHD Assessments for Adults

Many adults have spent years managing symptoms quietly—difficulty focusing, trouble with organization, restlessness, or a pattern of starting things without finishing them—without ever connecting those patterns to a diagnosable condition.

But more than that, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) can look different for everyone and does not always look like the “classic” presentation portrayed online. Other symptoms can include chronic disorganization, emotional dysregulation, and difficulty sustaining daily routines, which can be easily missed or misclassified—especially in adult women, whose ADHD symptoms are frequently overlooked or mistaken for anxiety or mood concerns.

Our ADHD assessments for adults include structured clinical interviews and standardized, evidence-based measures to give you a clear answer. We look at you, as a full dynamic person, not just a checklist of diagnostic criteria.

Autism Assessments for Adults

Autism spectrum evaluation for adults is still hard to access in many parts of the Bay Area, and adult presentations of autism are frequently missed or misunderstood earlier in life—especially for women and for people who have developed strong coping strategies.
Our psychological testing for autism is designed specifically with adult presentations in mind, using tools appropriate for adult clients rather than measures built for children. We offer care tailored to where you are now, not where you were years ago.

The Assessment Process

Here’s what to expect from your first call through your feedback session. Each step is led by your assessing student clinician, and the process may be adjusted based on your circumstances and needs. If the Assessment Clinic is the right fit for your needs, the process can typically begin within 1–2 weeks after your initial inquiry.

01 Phone Call Screening

Call our team at (650) 961-9300 to schedule your no-cost phone screening.

02 Clinical Interview

You’ll meet with your clinician for a more detailed interview about your history and concerns.

03 Testing

You’ll complete one to two 2-hour testing sessions using standardized, evidence-based measures.

04 Feedback Session

You’ll meet with your clinician for a 1-hour session to review your results in plain language.

Who Provides Your Assessment

Assessments are conducted by doctoral-level clinicians working toward licensure, under the direct supervision of licensed psychologists. This training-clinic model is what allows the Assessment Clinic to offer evaluations at a more accessible rate than many private practices, while still meeting the same clinical standards.

Please note, sessions are recorded for training purposes only and are reviewed by your assessing student clinician and their supervisors. Recordings are kept private and confidential and are deleted after approximately 60 days. You will be informed of the recording process upfront, and your comfort is deeply important to us. This is a critical part of determining if the Assessment Clinic is the right fit for you.

Cost & Access

Assessments are offered on a sliding scale as part of PAU’s community mission. Your clinician will walk you through fees during your no-cost phone screening.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Who can get an assessment at the Assessment Clinic?

Adults age 18 and older seeking an ADHD assessment, an autism assessment, or both are eligible for assessments at the clinic. If you have experienced a traumatic brain injury or are experiencing aging-related cognitive decline, you are not eligible for our services at this time.

Is there a self-assessment I can take before scheduling an appointment?

Self-assessment questionnaires for ADHD and autism are widely available online, but they aren't a substitute for a full clinical evaluation. If a self-assessment has left you wanting a clearer answer, that's a good sign it may be time to schedule an appointment with our team.

Does the Assessment Clinic evaluate dementia, TBI, or other neuropsychological conditions?

No. The Assessment Clinic is focused specifically on adult ADHD and autism assessments and does not provide dementia, traumatic brain injury (TBI), or other neuropsychological evaluations.

Will the Assessment Clinic ever evaluate children or adolescents?

Not yet. The Assessment Clinic currently serves adults only. Testing is tailored to fit the adult age group, not children or adolescents.

How much does an ADHD or autism assessment cost?

The Clinics @ PAU offer sliding-scale pricing to keep mental health and neurodivergent care affordable and accessible for all. Your clinician will discuss fees with you during your no-cost phone screening.

Who actually conducts the assessment?

Doctoral-level clinical students conduct assessments under the direct supervision of licensed psychologists.

Are sessions recorded?

Yes. As a training clinic, sessions are recorded for review by your assessing student clinician and their supervisors only. Recordings are kept private and confidential and are deleted after approximately 60 days. You’ll be informed of this before your assessment begins.

What if I'm currently in crisis or need ongoing treatment for suicidality, addiction, or psychosis?

While the Clinics @ PAU do offer ongoing counseling, neither the Assessment Clinic nor the Clinics @ PAU can offer crisis management care. PAU’s clinics operate on an academic calendar with breaks in continuity, which prevents the Assessment Clinic, Community Clinic, and our other clinics from offering care for these circumstances. Please call 988 if you are in need of immediate assistance.

Is the Assessment Clinic available by telehealth?

Yes. Assessments are available both in person and via telehealth. Telehealth appointments tend to have shorter wait times, and both options are equally effective and evidence-based.

Do you accept insurance or Medicaid/Medi-Cal for ADHD and autism assessments?

No, our services are intended for those who do not have assessments covered by insurance or Medicaid/Medi-Cal, or who may be uninsured or underinsured. We follow a sliding-scale schedule to keep care affordable.

If you’d like to seek insurance reimbursement, we can provide documentation to submit to your insurance provider, though reimbursement is not guaranteed.

Can the Assessment Clinic provide documentation for workplace or school accommodations?

Yes, in certain circumstances the clinic can provide documentation that may support workplace or educational accommodation requests. Any limitations will be explained during the consent process before your assessment begins.

Where is the Assessment Clinic located, and do you serve areas outside Mountain View?

The Assessment Clinic is located at 1172 Castro Street in Mountain View, CA, and serves clients throughout Santa Clara and San Mateo counties, as well as the greater Bay Area. Assessments are offered both in-person and via telehealth, for those who are unable to visit our office in Mountain View.

How do I get started with ADHD or autism testing?

Call (650) 961-9300 and ask about the Assessment Clinic to schedule your no-cost phone screening. We look forward to hearing from you!
