Winter Gathering Brings Employees Together
On December 16, faculty and staff gathered at Allen Calvin Campus’ Wisniewski Hall (Wiz Hall) for a warm and celebratory afternoon centered on connection, creativity, and community. Hosted by faculty and staff members Jammela Ali, Scott Hines, Will Snow, and Ann Marie Stratton, the gathering offered a chance to step away from busy schedules and enjoy time together in a relaxed and welcoming environment.
The space was thoughtfully transformed with cozy touches, including virtual fireplaces displayed on digital screens, seasonal music setting the tone, and interactive activities such as word search games and festive coloring pages that encouraged creativity and conversation. The atmosphere was lively yet intimate, filled with laughter, shared stories, and the unmistakable comfort of being among colleagues.
Food played a central role in bringing people together. Guests enjoyed drinks and a main entrée while contributing their favorite side dishes, resulting in a generous spread that reflected care. One standout dish was a crowd-favorite chicken biryani brought by Mehesh and lovingly prepared by his wife — a dish many attendees are still hoping to get the recipe for.
A friendly dessert competition added to the fun, showcasing both culinary creativity and good-natured rivalry. The winning dessert was a rich and indulgent choco-flan by Edgar Paredez, which earned top honors. Close contenders included Will Snow’s pumpkin dump cake and Ann Marie Stratton’s jello cake — both of which were enthusiastically enjoyed by the crowd.
Prize giveaways added an extra layer of excitement. Olivia Muffarah was voted “Person with the Most Holiday Cheer,” while Dr. Rowena Gomez was selected through a surprise draw. When asked what she was most proud of as the year comes to a close, Dr. Gomez shared a heartfelt reflection on her family — celebrating the successes and wins of her daughter, son, and husband.
One of the most meaningful moments of the afternoon came during welcoming remarks by Jammela Ali, Executive Assistant in the Office of the Provost, whose thoughtful greeting set a tone of warmth and belonging. Reflecting on the importance of moments like these, Jammela shared, “Coming together in this way is a reminder that our community is rooted in connection. These gatherings offer an opportunity to reconnect as a community, share joy, and strengthen the sense of belonging that makes PAU such a special place.”
As the afternoon unfolded, it became clear that the event was less about the activities themselves and more about the opportunity to reconnect — to see one another outside of meetings and responsibilities, to celebrate small joys, and to strengthen the sense of community that supports PAU’s work every day.
Moments like these serve as a reminder that community is built through shared experiences, generosity, and the simple act of coming together.
